REGARDING THINGS IN THE GAME

Hi there, my name is Michael Gamble, and I'm one of that bunch that started toying around with game development during the pandemic, to give my creativity some focus while all my jazz bass gigs vanished away overnight.

So I'd call myself a solo dev, but, as this is my first game, and it's big, I simply could not have done it all "from scratch", and I wanna give credit where due to the many folks and entities that have made this possible for a noob like me.

  • UNITY - Other engines may be great, I wouldn't know! I do know I was able to learn my way around using almost exclusively youtube searches, so props to all the amazing folks making those.

  • CORGI ENGINE - Like many, I had a lot of trepidation at first to put together a character controller, learn about cameras, game physics, UI and more. This terrific asset just keeps you from having to reinvent the wheel, and has absolutely amazing support. And honestly by now I have remade a lot of the basic stuff, but I wouldn't have been able to without first studying the gigantically useful library of scripts within Corgi.

  • COMMERCIAL ART ASSETS - I have placed nearly every pixel now in the game by hand, BUT many of them began as paid assets from amazing artists to whom I am deeply grateful. Like learning C# via CORGI, I feel like I went to school studying these assets and trying to figure out what made them beautiful. I want to give a particular shout out to: @Namatnieks, @cyangmou, @penusbmic, @PixElthen, and @DigitalMoons. Oh, and of course @somepx for fonts! If I missed any, let me know!

  • COMMISSIONED ARTISTS - For the more specialized creations I of course needed a fair amount of original art as well, and I knew I wanted the game to punch beyond my weight (in raw pixel design skills). The artists involved here ended up contributing to the soul of the game as much as the visual identity. They are: @Kekevennr, @Alphons63, @atariboy_, @SangrealPixel, @manu_composer, @TransientCode, @Thicccsnail

  • MUSIC - All music in the game was composed by the outstanding @alecxs_sunders. Prior to game development I was (and still am) a professional musician with a love of composing and arranging, so I was anxious about NOT making the music for Behind the Kingdom, despite feeling like my hands were full with the rest of the work. Luckily I found Alecxs, and any anxiety melted away, because I knew I had the right person who was fully in sync with the musical vision for the game.

I strongly recommend working with anyone listed here! Behind the Kingdom would likely not exist without their artistry and technical skills.
